Assigning Roles
This activity allows learners to choose their own roles and duties
within a group task.
The steps

Learner are put into groups of various ability levels.

Learners select individual roles within their group. This allows learners to identify and work with their own strengths.

Each group is given a task, for example, this could be to create a set of instructions or to revise previous materials.

Teacher facilitates the session by observing and prompting when needed.

Learners share their work at the end of the session. This can be peer assessed.
Top tips - Assigning roles can be useful as a form of differentiation, or challenging learners to work outside of their comfort zones by giving them roles they might be less familiar in.
